## Baemin Opens Era of Unmanned Robot Delivery in the Heart of Gangnam! The Dawn of Future Delivery
Baedal Minjok (hereinafter Baemin), after extensive research and testing, has finally launched its unmanned autonomous robot delivery service in the complex urban center of Seoul's Gangnam district, heralding a revolutionary change in our daily delivery landscape. This advanced robot delivery service, which navigates beyond limited spaces like university campuses and apartment complexes to traverse back alleys bustling with people and vehicles, presents a blueprint for future delivery systems.
Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baemin, is launching the 'Baemin B-Mart Robot Delivery Service' starting May 25th in parts of Nonhyeon-dong and Yeoksam-dong in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Baemin, which has been pursuing robot projects since 2017 under the vision of 'convenient daily delivery,' has steadily accumulated technology and data through pilot operations at Konkuk University (2019), door-to-door service at Gwanggyo Alleyway (2020), and food delivery at COEX (2023). Now, these efforts are bearing fruit in Gangnam.
This robot delivery service delivers items within approximately 30 minutes to the entrances of about 300 buildings within a 1.5km radius, centered around B-Mart's urban distribution centers (PPC). After May, the service is planned to significantly expand its coverage to over 1,000 locations. The usage method is simple. Simply add items to your cart on the Baemin app's B-Mart section between 2 PM and 9 PM on weekdays and select 'Robot Delivery'. When you receive an 'arrival notification' message 100 meters before the robot arrives, you can open the robot's compartment at the delivery location via the app to retrieve your items. What's remarkable is that it operates completely unmanned, without any on-site human accompaniment.
Baemin's autonomous delivery robot 'Dilly' carries up to 20kg of items and moves at 1.5m/s, a speed similar to that of a person walking. With an IP54 dustproof and waterproof rating, it can handle adverse weather conditions and precisely recognizes surrounding objects and obstacles using cameras and LiDAR. In particular, its advanced safe driving algorithm ensures proactive and safe navigation, allowing the robot to autonomously adjust speed and stop even in complex back alleys with suddenly appearing vehicles or high pedestrian traffic. Its meticulous design, featuring flags and reflectors, also stands out for enhancing visual recognition by pedestrians and drivers. Initially, four units will be deployed, and the number of Dilly robots will be gradually increased in accordance with order volume and service area expansion.
Hwang Hyun-kyu, Head of Woowa Brothers' Robot Product Strategy Team, stated, "By deploying our self-developed robots in the rapidly growing quick commerce market, we will enhance customer convenience and further advance our robot technology and services." He added, "In the future, we will enable more customers to experience the convenience of robot delivery by linking it with our food delivery service," thereby raising expectations for an era of robot delivery that extends beyond Gangnam.
